Demanding declaration of the result of their first year exam held in November, hundreds of Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) and General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) students held a protest on the Doctors’ Day here today.

They marched to the CM’s camp office, but were stopped by the police at Mall Road. Following an assurance of a meeting with the CM by the authorities, they dispersed.

Paritma, a student said, “As many as 8,000 nursing students had appeared for the exam but in spite of declaring our results we have been told that the university that conducted the exam was not the competent authority to do so.”

Shahnawaz, who was leading the protest, said that the government should not play with the future of the students and declare the results at the earliest.

Instead of providing relief to youths, the state was harassing them and they were suffering for the misdeeds of others, he alleged.

While the government was promoting the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme, the situation in the state was different as the government was forcing girls to sit at home,” said Sumit Singh, a SFI leader.
