Greater Noida: A 21-year-old student of a private nursing institute in Knowledge Park III was found dead in the courtyard of the institute's hostel building on Monday night, during the course of a farewell part for seniors.

The woman was rushed to Kailash Hospital where she was declared brought dead. The third-year student, whose mobile phone was found on the fourth floor of the building, suffered multiple fractures, especially in her legs, said police. While cops suspect it to be a case of suicide, the woman's family members are claiming foul play.

The Kailash Institute of Nursing And Para-Medical Sciences is part of Kailash Group of Hospitals owned by Union minister Mahesh Sharma. Deepak Ruhil, a resident of GTB Nagar in North Delhi, was a third-year student of BSc Nursing in the institute. Her cousin Satish told TOI that a farewell party for her seniors was under way on the ground floor on Monday night when she was found dead. "At around 8pm, one of Deepak's hostelmates saw her dead in the courtyard. There were no blood stains on the ground. We were informed at around 9pm about her death," Satish said.

"We are yet to lodge an FIR. There were no blood stains on the ground where the body was found," said Arun Singh, deputy superintendent of police.

Deepak, who had topped the third-year exam and had secured 70% marks in the recent semester exams, was reportedly last seen by her friends at around 7.45pm. "Deepak had called her mother when the farewell party was on but she didn't answer," Satish added.

Her mother Vimla said her daughter was planning to leave the hostel as she was not comfortable staying there in the summers. Deepak shared her room with another student, who the cops are yet to question.

Deepak, the youngest in the family, is survived by her mother, two sisters and a brother. Her father and elder sister had died a few years ago.

Knowledge Park SHO Sanjay Verma said that according to autopsy report Deepak died of shock and haemorrhage. "She suffered multiple fractures, especially in her legs. Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide," Verma said. No FIR has so far been registered. CCTV cameras in the hostel building were not functional, he added.

Institute director Sandeep Goel said they were cooperating with the cops. Deepak used to live on the first floor and the farewell party was on the ground floor. The accident is not related to the party, Goel said. "She is suspected to have fallen from the building's fourth floor. Police have also found her mobile phone from the same floor," he added, adding that further investigations will reveal the cause of her death.
