In the present scenario due to higher educational and knowledge level common man is aware of different aspect of the health. The traditional nursing care became a home remedies and health consciousness made higher class people to see the nurse in cross angle. In the cases of the middle and lower class family they are struggling for survival so their ignorance make them not listen to the nurses education. Its time for nurses to gain more advanced practical knowledge to update ourself to uplift nurses image in the society.
My experience with cancer patients:
Myself when joined to father muller college of nursing as a lecture in dept of community health nursing, i have also given a chance to care the clients and supervision of students in cancer ward. First day of my visit felt uneasy to see the whole health team focusing on the physical and pharmacological treatment (if client says a mild or moderate pain Tab or injection Paracetamol is the solution). That day decided to focus more on clients social, psychological and emotional factors in view to see a laugh on their faces. Cancer clients physical problems are only a tip of the iceberg, where as other social, emotional and psychological problems were hidden. To reveal and understand we require a empathetic heart, helping hand, cognitive head and willingness to do some change as being NURSE, who is known and meant for that. I remember our FLORENCE NIGH TINGLE a pioneer of nursing who took initiative to heal and provide comfort for the soldiers who were injured in the battle field involving a local community resources. Her hard dedicated work, scientific temperament made her to heal and provide comfort for thousands and millions of people. I determined to spend at least one hour daily with the cancer clients to ventilate their feeling, understand and provide a friendly educative environment by giving them some puzzles, games and other different complementary treatments. I feel very happy and satisfied with my profession and work. Whenever i find free time i am reading about the cancer and its care only for the sake of SMILE.
