SAVE TNAI - Demand for a fair and democratic process

Dear All,
Trained Nurses Association of India was considered to be body, having highest membership but its no more. Recent statistics from Indian Nursing Council revealed that there are around 17 lakh nurses in India but TNAI has only 3 lakh members. In last decade few other association crossed more than five digit number and one among them has more than three lakh membership.
Why TNAI could not able to cover the larger nurses in India?
Every registered nurses has many answers for that, some of the common were following:
1. TNAI is not doing any work
2. TNAI is a Teachers association, yes it true. Majority of executives are form academic background.
Fortunately this association was build by clinical nurses and supervisors but contemporary times they are sidelined. But question is what was and is the members responsibility towards this institution. Being a member is not enough but see that they function democratically for the benefit of all the members and professional developments.
With this small note i would like to bring some issues of TNAI to all its members and followers
1. TNAI Karnataka Elections: Last month TNAI Karnataka was ready to conduct election and was held. Surprisingly come to know that Dr.Prabhudeva is elected unanimously as a president. Congratulation to him.
But it seems a conspiracy in this process. All the candidates who nominated earlier with nearly fifty nominees had withdrawn their nominee. Should we believe that one who has oath to bring a change in profession and health of the people could able to step-back, if so under what pressure? Why such action was done should be questioned and a fair process of election should be reassured.
An appeal to all the TNAI Members of Karnataka to look in to this issue and react. We members need to ask following questions to state committee and head quarters;
A. How many meetings did Dr.Prabhudeva and other executives conducted and their minutes of meetings in the last period? Reveal the present working position of Dr.Prabhudeva with evidences? and his last five years history to be made public or informed to members.
B. What were the strategies to cut short malpractices in nursing examination in the state (for details please log on tohttp://nursingmovements.blogspot.in/) ?
C.What was the stand of TNAI Karnataka when more than 400 contractual nurses of NRHM were on hunger strike? there are many such questions but for time being TNAI Karnataka election should be questioned and demand for transparent election process.
2. Delhi TNAI Elections: It was supposed to be conducted by this time but autocratically it was postponed. We need to demand for an explanation. Please read and comment on this.
We need to be active members of this association to uplift standards of nursing profession.
Thank You
Regards
