CHENNAI:After over seven years since the foundation stone was laid for the Indian Institute of Advanced Nursing (IIAN) at Tambaram, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry will commence construction work soon. The Ministry had already sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the institute that to come up at a five-acre land at Tambaram Sanitorium, said R Josephine Little Flower, Nursing Adviser of the Ministry on Friday.
The State government had identified land near National Institute of Siddha at the Government Hospital of Thoracic Medicine. “The foundation stone was laid by then Union health minister Anbumani Ramdoss and this project was to be taken up under public-private partnership. However, it was put on the backburner due to trouble in funds. Now the Union Healh Ministry itself has taken up the project and sanctioned Rs 200 crore for construction works,” she said.
“Funds will be released and soon the construction work will start. As this comes under 12th Five-year Plan that is going to lapse soon, the work will get over before that. This is going to be an apex centre of excellence for nursing. All PG, UG courses for nursing and also PhD and research works will be carried out by the institute,” added Josephine.
She was speaking at the international conference for nursing on ‘authentication of scientific research for eminence’ translating research into practice, organised by Sree Balaji College of Nursing, Bharath University.
Speaking later, Ani Grace Kalaimathi, registrar, Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, pointed out that despite undertaking many research activities, the articles were getting published only on national journals, not in the prestigious international journals.
