National Health Mission (NHM) employees who were on strike since March
10 called off the strike on Wednesday. They have also submitted a
10-day ultimatum to the state government.
However, employees also took part in a rally in Chattar Singh Park
and later reported at Civil Surgeon office. They will be joining work on
Thursday. It needs to be mentioned that employees had been protesting
for regularization of salaries. The Chief Minister as well as the deputy
Chief Minister had asked them to join work and had said that their
demands will be taken into consideration.
President of nurses association of NHM, Karamjeet Kaur, however,
said, “Though we have decided to join work, we have also given a 10-day
ultimatum to the state government. On a daily basis, employees of two
districts will continue their dharna at Chandigarh for the next 10 days
and if our demands are not addressed, we will go on strike again.”
On Thursday, union members of Mohali and Ropar will be in Chandigarh to stage a dharna while the rest will go back to work.
More than 8,000 employees have been employed under NHM in Punjab
health centres and their pay scales are far less than the regular
employees.
